Joshua Strobl from the Solus Project is happy to announce today, September 7, 2016, the release of an updated ISO image for the Solus operating system based on the linux kernel.

Solus 1.2.0.5 is now available for download to those who planned on reinstalling their Solus operating system because of various major issues, or deploy it on new computers. Solus now being a rolling release OS, there's no need for the rest of the world to download today's Solus 1.2.0.5 ISO image.

So what's Solus 1.2.0.5? Again, it is only an updated installation medium that brings multiple improvements to the most important components, as well as all the latest software versions that have been pushed to the distribution's stable repositories since the launch of Solus 1.2.

Among the improvements introduced in Solus 1.2.0.5, we can mention a workaround for a refresh issue with the battery icon when using the Budgie desktop environment, along with a fix for an issue with the keyboard layout, which reverted to its initial, guessed state on login, and the addition of GNOME Screensaver for the lock screen.

Moreover, the installer has been improved as well with better support for Intel Skylake processors and Nvidia Maxwell graphics cards, and a workaround for the "scanning disks hang" issue reported by many users. "This release enables us to address a multitude of issues that have since been resolved after the release of Solus 1.2," says Joshua Strobl.

Solus 1.2.1 coming soon with more improvements

Of course, Solus 1.2.0.5 also includes all the latest software updates, starting with the newest and most advanced core components, such as Linux kernel 4.7.2 (version 4.7.3 is already available), GCC (GNU Compiler Collection) 6.1.0, Mesa 12.0 3D Graphics Library, and Glibc (GNU C Library) 2.24, and continuing with the GNOME 3.20 Stack and Pulseaudio 9 sound server.

If you're curious to know what new software versions landed in Solus 1.2.0.5, we recommend studying the entire list of changes published on the release announcement. In the meantime, you can download the Solus 1.2.0.5 ISO image right now via our website, and hope for Solus 1.2.1 major update to arrive much sooner we that full-disk encryption support promised for such a long time.
